Whitespace remover
Collapse repeated spaces, strip blank lines, convert tabs — and remove the invisible characters nothing else catches.
Nothing you type is sent anywhere. This runs entirely in your browser — no upload, no server round-trip.
Your text is saved to this browser only, so it's still here if you come back. Nothing is ever sent to a server.
How to use it
-
1
Paste your text
Drop it into the box on the left. Nothing is uploaded — conversion happens as you type.
-
2
Choose your options
Turn on whichever cleanup steps you need. "Remove invisible characters" is on by default.

3
Copy or download
The cleaned text appears on the right immediately. Copy it, or download it as a .txt file.
Questions people ask
What are the "invisible characters" this removes?
Mostly zero-width spaces, zero-width joiners and the word-joiner character. They get into text from copy-pasting out of Word, Google Docs, or a PDF, and they are completely invisible on screen — but they break search-and-replace, CSV imports and string comparisons that expect plain text. A non-breaking space is handled separately: it is converted to a regular space rather than deleted, since deleting it would merge two words together.
Will this corrupt Devanagari or other non-Latin text?
No. Every operation matches specific whitespace and invisible characters — it never touches, reorders or splits anything else, including combining marks and emoji. Devanagari conjuncts and vowel signs pass through exactly as typed.
Is there a size limit?
No hard limit, and nothing is uploaded — it all runs in your browser's memory. Very large pastes (a megabyte or more) may take a moment to process on an older device, but the page will not freeze.
Does this send my text anywhere?
No. There is no server round-trip at all — view the page source or your browser's network tab and you will not see the text leave your machine.
A whitespace remover that catches what others miss
Most online "remove extra spaces" tools do exactly one thing: replace runs of spaces with a single space. That handles the obvious case but misses the one that actually causes problems — invisible characters. A zero-width space or a word-joiner copied out of a Word document or a PDF renders as nothing on screen, survives a normal trim, and then quietly breaks a CSV import, a search-and-replace, or a string comparison in code that expects plain text.
This tool removes those invisible characters by default, alongside the usual cleanup: collapsing repeated spaces, trimming each line, removing or collapsing blank lines, and converting between tabs and spaces at a width you choose. Every option is independent, so you can combine exactly the ones you need — collapsing spaces without touching line breaks, say, or stripping blank lines without collapsing anything else.
When you'd use this
Cleaning up text pasted from a PDF or a Word document before publishing it. Normalising whitespace in a config file or a CSV export before it goes into a script. Stripping the blank lines and invisible characters that make a code diff noisier than it needs to be. Preparing scraped or copy-pasted content for a CMS that mangles inconsistent whitespace.
Limitations
The character and word counts are a practical approximation, not a full Unicode grapheme-cluster count — a multi-part emoji (like a flag or a skin-tone variant) may count as more than one character. This is a text tool, not a rich-text one: it works on plain text, so formatting from a word processor is not preserved either way.
